05/16/10 Airloom

I forget who but someone I’m following tweeted these great videos. MFA student at SVA, Russ Maschmeyer, has this great concept for a device responsible for collecting, sharing, and passing down stories and conversations around the family dinner table. The device is appropriately named Airloom.

It’s great to see new ways technology can bring us together rather than being stuck staring at our phones or computer screens.

Stumbled across this last night although it’s been out for awhile. I’m constantly amazed of the abilities and integration technology can have with art. Here we have an example of some very talented individuals who have captured the movements of graffiti artists. These animations/motions can now be customized, altered, and displayed at an infinite scale on any wall. The open source program is also available for free download so you too can play with it. The project, created by Evan Roth, is titled Graffiti Analysis 2.0. Check out the website for more information on the project.

Playing with and experimenting with typography always makes me happy and today I was happy. I came across an old post from September on Typophile. The man from Bangkok used what looks like a mixture of corn starch, dye, and water and then placed that inside a speaker. With the speaker turned up he let the substance engulf the letters producing some great typography in motion. Smart and creative.
